Exhibition Introduction

The 54th annual exhibition of SWS will take place this year from September 23rd to 26th at the multi-purpose hall (level 7) of the Singapore Chinese Cultural Center. The exhibition will feature around 200 artworks by 100 SWS members, as well as the 54 winning entries from the SWS 15th National Junior Watercolour Competition, which is held alongside the exhibition.

You are cordially invited to the official opening of the exhibition on 23 September at 3pm. Joining us is Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Manpower.

Two guided tours of the exhibition will be conducted daily during the exhibition period. Just drop in and join the tours at the following timings:

  • 23-25 September, 2pm & 4pm
  • 26 September, 1pm & 3pm

SWS 15th National Junior Watercolour Competition 2023

The competition has closed.

Both categories of the competition received overwhelming good response.

The Primary School category for those aged 5 to 12 attracted around 850 participants. The category for those aged 13 to 18 saw more than 400 participants turn up at the Singapore River on 19 August morning to paint a scene along the river.

A total of 54 winners were selected for all categories and their works will be exhibited together with SWS members’ at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Center during our exhibition period. There will also be a prize giving ceremony during our exhibition opening day.

About the Competition

This competition is organized alongside our annual SWS exhibition, aimed at promoting watercolour art among our young.
There will be 2 major categories for participants.

For Children aged 5 to 12:

Participants aged 5 to 12 will create their artwork at home and then submit it at SWS Telok Kurau Studio on 29 July 2023 between 10am and 2pm. The theme for their creation is "My beautiful Singapore".

For participants aged 13 to 18:

Participants in this age group will paint on location along Singapore River on 19 August 19 2023 (Sat), from 9am to 12 noon. On the day of the event, participants should report to the entrance of the Asian Civilisation Museum for registration, which starts at 8am and ends at 9am. Each participant will be provided with a quarter sheet (38cm by 28cm) of watercolour paper for the competition. If you prefer to use your own drawing paper, it must be presented to an SWS official for inspection and stamp.

Welcome to the 54th Singapore Watercolour Society (SWS) Virtual Exhibition 2023 website.

This is an important event held annually for SWS members to showcase their best works as well as a platform for artists to express their styles and creativity in their works to the public.

This year, close to 100 SWS artists are participating in this exhibition. Of which, 10% are taking part for the first time. The subjects of the paintings range from Singapore and overseas street scenes, still life, landscape, flora, portraits, abstract works and more.

The exhibition will be held from 23 -26 September at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Center, Multi- Purpose Hall (Level 7).

In conjunction with this exhibition, SWS also organized the 15th edition of the National Junior Watercolour Competition 2023 as part of the SWS outreach to generate interest in watercolour art painting amongst the young and to identify young talents.

This year’s competition has two categories: Category A - children Aged 5-12 years and Category B - participants aged 13-18 years. For Category A, primary school students created their works at home based on the theme “My Beautiful Singapore” while Category B participants painted on location along Singapore River.

The competitions were successful held in August 2023 and received overwhelming response. It attracted a record high of close 1,400 entries. The 54 winning works were selected and their works will be exhibited with the SWS artists’ in this exhibition.
