Welcome Message

Donald Tan
President of the Singapore Watercolour Society (SWS)

Welcome to the 56th Singapore Watercolour Society (SWS) Annual Exhibition 2025.

Founded in 1969 by a group of passionate artists united by their love for watercolour painting, the Singapore Watercolour Society (SWS) has grown remarkably over the past 55 years. What began as a modest art club has evolved into one of Southeast Asia’s leading watercolour organisation.

Today, our membership continues to grow, both in numbers and in artistic excellence. Many of our members have earned recognition through local and regional accolades, with several achieving prestigious national and international awards.

Our annual exhibition is a major highlight for the SWS community and a platform for members to showcase their unique artistic expressions and individual styles to the public. This year, we are proud to present the works of 100 SWS artists, alongside the internationally renowned watercolour master, Alvaro Castagnet. His work is known for capturing the essence of his subjects with passion, boldness, and elegance. We are honoured to have him join us, both as an exhibitor and as a guest demonstrator during the exhibition. We hope his contributions will offer visitors a rich and inspiring experience of the finest watercolour artistry.

In conjunction with the exhibition, SWS reaffirms its commitment to outreach and education through the National Junior Watercolour Competition 2025. Now in its 17th edition, this initiative continues to nurture young talent and foster a love for watercolour painting among the next generation. We are thrilled to have received over 1,200 entries this year. The 54 winning artworks, spanning three age categories, will be displayed alongside those of our members’, offering a glimpse into the future of watercolour art in Singapore.

This year also marks the launch of a pilot programme, the new International Youth Category for our “On The Spot” Competition, attracting around 100 young participants from overseas. We are excited to expand our platform for young talent to a global scale.

The exhibition will be held from 24 to 29 September 2025 at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, Multi-Purpose Hall (Level 7). A total of 250 artworks will be on display, covering a wide range of subjects including street scenes, still life, landscapes, florals, portraits, abstracts, and more. A selection of these works is also presented in our website for your enjoyment.

In closing, we extend our sincere gratitude to all participating artists, students, parents, and teachers for their unwavering support. Our heartfelt appreciation also goes to our generous sponsors and the dedicated organising committee, whose tireless efforts have made this exhibition possible.

We warmly invite you to explore and enjoy the exhibition.
