Welcome Message

Donald Tan
President of the Singapore Watercolour Society (SWS)

Welcome to the 55th Singapore Watercolour Society (SWS) Exhibition website.

SWS has come a long way since its founding in 1969 by a group of 13 emerging artists who shared a common love for watercolour painting and a bold vision which led to the formation of the SWS.

Over the last 55 years, the society has grown from a humble art club into a leading watercolor organisation in Southeast Asia. Membership has grown from strength to strength and many SWS artists have been conferred prestigious awards.

As we reflect on SWS’s progress and achievements, we know that these would not have been possible without the strong and forward looking leaders on the Management Council. I would like to pay tribute to the past Presidents for their contributions, dedication and sacrifices as they worked tirelessly behind the scene to guide the society forward.

This annual exhibition is a significant event for SWS members, providing them a platform to showcase their works and express their unique styles and creativity to the public. In addition to featuring around 100 SWS artists, we have invited 20 watercolourists from Australia, China, India, Nepal, Thailand and Myanmar to exhibit their works with us. We hope this cultural exchange offers viewers the opportunity to appreciate different watercolor styles and artistic perspectives.

In conjunction with this exhibition, SWS continues to organise the National Junior Watercolour Competition 2024 as part of our outreach to inspire interest in watercolour painting among the young and to discover young talents. Once again, the competition received overwhelming response, with more than 1,100 entries. The 54 winning works have been selected and will be exhibited with the SWS artists’ at this exhibition.

The exhibition will be held from 7 September to 12 September 2024 at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Center, Multi- Purpose Hall (Level 7). A total of 250 works will be on display, covering a wide range of subjects including street scenes, still life, landscape, flora, portraits, abstract works and more. We are pleased to present a selection of these artworks on this website, and we hope you enjoy them.

Lastly, I would like to thank all the participating artists, parents, teachers and students for their support, our sponsors for their generous contributions and the organising committee for their dedication and hard work in making this exhibition a success.

Do enjoy the Exhibition!
