Lim Hwee Tiong林辉忠

Lim Hwee Tiong (b. 1950) a local born artist began his formal training in watercolour painting in the 1960s. A graduate from the Singapore Academy of Fine Arts, Lim has been active in the local art scene, winning awards such as National Day Art Exhibition organised by the Ministry of Culture in 1979, a Commendation award in two art exhibitions organised by the Ministry of Culture and United Overseas Bank group in 1982 and 1983. In 1985, he won the Tan Tze Chor scholarship, a highly regarded award in the local art scene. That same year, he also won the first prize in the Representation Category of art exhibition organised by the United Overseas Bank Group and was also selected to participate in ‘ASPACAE’85 Nanyang Art Exhibition. In 1986, he was invited to exhibit in Artistes Comtemporains De Singapore Au Grand Palais in Paris. A lifetime member of the Singapore Watercolour Society, he held his first solo art exhibition, ‘Lim Hwee Tiong Art Exhibition’ at the National Museum in 1991. This exhibition was officiated by Professor Cham Tao Soon, President of Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI). NTI commissioned Lim to paint the landscapes of the campus in 1990. This practice continued since 1991, when Nanyang Technological University (NTU) took over the campus of NTI. NTU commissioned Lim to create more paintings for the campus until 2020. Lim’s artworks are widely exhibited on NTU campus and at external facilities managed by the University, for example, the Alumni Club House at Marin Square. To date many of his works are now in the permanent collection of NTU Museum. His works are also in the collection of the national museums of Singapore, UOB Art Collection and private collection.
