Started watercolor painting in 1967 and graduated from the Singapore Academy of Art. Won Special Award for a watercolour painting at the National Day Art Exhibition organized by Ministry of Culture in 1978.
Invited to participate in the ‘Singapore Artists Works Exhibition’ held in the Louvre Museum Art Exhibition Paris, France in 1981. In 1985, won ‘Tan Tze Chor Art Scholarship’ and also the First Prize (Representation Category) Award (United Overseas Bank Group). Selected to exhibit in ‘Artistes Contemporains De Singapore Au Grand Palais’, Paris in 1986. Held solo ‘Lim Hwee Tiong Art Exhibition’ at National Museum in 1991 officially opened by Prof. Cham Tao Soon, President of Nanyang Technological Institute. Held Joint Exhibition with Wong Hai and Ang Siew Tin at The Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Solo ‘Memories of the Past’ Watercolour Art Exhibition at Hai Hui Art Gallery in 2010. In 2017, Commissioned by NTU Museum to create a series of works on the new landscape of the campus in 2017. Published his biography “The Art of Lim Hwee Tiong - Conversations on 50 Years of Painting Singapore” in 2022, Now available in National Library Board reference section. In 2023, “Singapore River in 1970s”, painted in 1982 and a collection from National Gallery was printed as one of 8 postcards with seven of Singapore’s renowned artists: Lim Hak Tai, Tan Choh Tee, Lim Cheng Hoe, Chen Chong Swee, Lim Tze Peng, Lee Choon Kee and Lee Boon Wang, in a commemorative “Singapore River Postcard Set” by National Gallery Singapore. From 1994 to 2015, he also participated annually in various local arts exhibition and overseas exhibition in countries like Taiwan, China, Japan, Korea and Malaysia. His works are also in private and public collections: Nanyang Technological University, United Overseas Bank Group, private collectors.
