Lai Wong Thye graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts with a certificate in Chinese painting in 1987. Since then, she has participated in various art exhibitions, both locally as well as in China, Taiwan and Malaysia. Recent exhibitions include the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Alumni Association 38th Anniversary Art Exhibition and The Singapore Watercolour Society’s 44th Annual Exhibition, both of which took place in Singapore in 2013.
Lai Wong Thye is a dedicated practitioner of her craft and spends several hours daily honing her skills, particularly in the media of watercolour, pen & ink and charcoal. She regularly explores both well-trodden as well as little-known areas in Singapore in a bid to capture out-of-the-ordinary perspectives. She enjoys landscapes, particularly those which feature architecture reminiscent of eras gone by. Occasionally, she captures still life and is partial to flowers.
An avid traveller, Lai Wong Thye has journeyed on painting expeditions to a multitude of countries, including China, India, Indonesia, Italy, Nepal and Spain, among many others. These trips have allowed Wong Thye to combine her love of sketching and painting from nature with her interest in travel.
Lai Wong Thye is an active member of several art societies, including the Nanyang Academy Fine Arts Alumni Association, Singapore, the Singapore Art Society and the Singapore Watercolour Society.
