Huiying is a typical Singaporean who has been through the regular education system. Since young, her parents has put emphasis on bicultural and bilingual education, hence resulting her speaking like a foreigner.
At age of 4, upon seeing her strong interest in scribbling and ‘drawing’, her parents sent her to the neighborhood art class. Her formal practice in art starts at 10, when she started classes with Mr Yap Tay Soon, who had former training in NAFA western arts. Under the guidance of Mr Yap, Huiying was exposed to still life pencil sketch, outdoor watercolour paintings and subsequently, landscape painting with acrylic and oil. Till today, she still paints weekly with Mr Yap and his students.
Graduated with a fine arts degree in Digital Animation from NTU, Huiying started out her career in the visual effects industry making movies such as Transformers, Warcraft and Fast & Furious. The intensive 4 years in digital painting has enchanced her abilities in observing and capturing realism. Her training in animation has also allowed her to capture human figures and portraiture at ease. In 2015, after few years of monotonous commercial work, Huiying decided to leave the industry and to pursue art full time.
Today, she paints regularly with various art groups and gained her membership in professional art societies. Her recent art creation is a collaboration with her ex-colleague who went on a photography trip in India. Been trained as a production digital artists for more than 12 years, Huiying can’t helped but has commercial blood running in her. Other than painting and sketching, she also hold a day job at a local creative agency, where she is surrounded by fellow passionate artists everyday.
