Born in 1961, Calvin Chua Cheng Koon is one of Malaysia’s more recognizable painter. A trained painter who is also skilful in numerous medium, Calvin was formerly an art lecturer with the Kuala Lumpur College of Art and has been a professional artist for more than three decades now. He was the winner of the Malaysian Young Contemporaries Award (1986) as well as the Yayasan Seni Selangor Award (2009). Over the years, Calvin has been involved in solo and group art shows and exhibitions in various countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, Belgium, China, Singapore, Brazil, Sweden, India, Hong Kong, Korea, and Japan.
Best known for his watercolour paintings of landscapes, the atmospheric tranquillity of the sceneries and life in the kampong, and children lost in fun and play.
A tireless and generous educator, Calvin has taught some of today’s well known painters working in the Malaysian art scene today. He is a member of various art societies namely the Penang Artists Society, North Kedah Art Society, Singapore Watercolour Society and serves as Vice-President of the Malaysian Watercolour Society.
His paintings are found in the collections of prominent private individuals and international corporations.
